We have one hanging in our shop. It was a gift to us from Masaharu Hoshino (he sent one to Dan and Gene as well). It is around 16 feet long!

Kind Regards,
Bill

Here is my puny one, next to my pond just before winter cover went on. I picked this up at the Rocky Mountain Koi Show in Denver last summer.

Can you tell us the tale, oh JR-san? I am just starting to learn the legends....

Nice to see the koi nobori (or is it one word, koinobori?) being shared in this thread from all over the world. Keep 'em coming, please.

(Keiko, just love that bonsai! Very dramatic and wise looking. I did not imagine bonsai in Norway until now)

It's getting so close to spring it just seems natural to want to see colorful reminders of our beloved Nishikigoi swimming in the quickening breaths of Spring, and to hear the stories of why they were chosen as important historical icons in Japanese as well as Chinese culture.

I'm just beginning to study the historical significance of carp (and fish in general, such as the salmon in Irish lore). So far it's been fascinating....

My local Jusco is now full of them, different sizes, colours and very different prices!!!

Under 3000yen gets you a basic set of 3, 1m, 80cm, 60cm, with a 1m streamer flag, pole and spinning wheel on top!

60,000yen gets you a whole lot more!!!!

There also a whole load aimed at catching the kids with cartoon characters on them.

For a few hundred yen you can get little sets of Koinobori.

Whilst I was in there the other day looking at them I can guarantee every kid that walked past exclaimed 'Koinobori!'.

LOL Mstrseed (I keep wanting to type Mr. Steed!) Paint a carp on the side of that sock net and you'll have an aquatic koi nobori.

Mark, I sure wish we had a Justco here that gears up for Children's Day every year....I want a whole set and only those carpy nylon socks from Taiwan can be had here stateside. Saw a 'Hello Kitty' set once. Not exactly what I was looking for. *LOL*
