Question Standard of koi competing for Grand Champion at Orlando Show?

Anybody know anything about the koi that are going to be the favorites for Grand Champion at the Orlando Show; or do you not really know the competitors until you get there? Any former SoCal grand champions coming? Thanks

Hmmmmmmm...... All I feel I can say is that we've got 45 show tanks reserved by hobbyists, and another 8 by dealers for hobbyists' fish. (Don't let that deter more entries! I'm sure the show director can find a way to fit in more.... Right, Henry? ) There are some mighty fine ones coming. But, I've only seen SoCal koi entries in photos. I've gotta get there... maybe the same year we get Nancy to Orlando.

Hello Ben . . .

I know that SoCal GC's have been transported and shown as far away as CO and AZ; further East than that I've not heard of.

I re-arranged the tank layout last night to squeeze 2 more tanks into the show. We now have a total of 54 tanks (21 8ft and 33 6ft) that are all reserved (2 reserved for emergency use should we have a spawning). If you have not reserved a tank already, the only way you can get a Koi into the show now is to buy one from one of our return vendors that we are supplying a tank in the show ring.

Which vendors have a tank?

The list could change if one of the vendors start selling a lot of Koi to enter. From past history, the following vendors have sold Koi early so will most likely have a tank:

Quality Koi/Nisei Koi Farm (Mat McCann)
Nishikigoi of Niigata (Ray Abell)
Eastern Nishikigoi
Genki
Purdin
Backwater Creek

Two other vendors we do not have enough experience with to know for sure:

Champion
Peters & Sons

Thanks . Maybe I'll do some armchair competing from my house and have one of them enter a koi for me .

No, no no.... the owner must be a hobbyist who registers the fish in person. Sorry, Jim.

....I think it's time to start planning CFKS 2009... need a bigger tent, or will have to cut back on the number of vendors under the show tent. Far better to have some unused show tanks than to limit entries.
