IF the breeder does QT are these fish not overstocked into a QT? Does the dealer go through the proper steps? I always wondered about that, it is like in my business (car sales), you are according to law supposed to wait until title is in your hand before you can display a car for sale. However like most dealers it is hard to resist trying to sell your inventory before you obtain the title because you have so much money tied up in it. So once I learned of the proper way to QT I found it important to do it myself (never can be to carefull), like you all should have a car checked over to and not take the dealers word for it

Which car dealership do you work for? Are you local here LA? I'm a CAR BROKER. May be we can do business.

shouldn't have been reading Brett's post around lunch time.....the constant mention of a hot potatoe has me hankerin for some chives, butter and sour cream...

Brett is right you know, like smokey the bear would say...only YOU can prevent KHV.
The buck ultimately stops on home base.

I learned a long time prior to KHV that if I wanted a healthy koi, the smallesdt amount of other hands to touch that koi the better. If they did handle the koi, there was no mixing.
The fish came in from the breeders and were held separate from other farms. Once cleaned up and into the home QT the sooner, the better.

what i have seen in my trips around the globe is make shift QT tanks on the home ground.
Makes me shutter. The koi's repair and opportunity to get over all the travel, treatment and confinement is a first class system. Aged and constantly running with water no less than what is available in the home pond, is a must for the home QT.

Yep. That's the point Waddington made in Koi2Kichi and got jumped on by folks as not insisting on QT at all times. Quarantine is always best, but a bad quarantine is worse. The 'Age of KHV' has increased the risks, but not changed the reality. BTW, I see nothing wrong with a 2-month quarantine by a dealer handling imports. I personally want KHV testing done after the fish has gone through QT and exposure to whatever is in the importer's tanks. There is no guarantee the dealer will be perfect. But, if I do not have full confidence, I don't want the fish at my house even to quarantine.

All the reputable dealers here in CA do serology test/KHV, de-parasite and QT.
You still need to do it yourself/plus before you put in pond scrape and scope .
Best if you heat to 75+ degrees in QT...........
