90% of human skin cancer is caused by the sun's UV rays. Fair skin and red hair are the most susceptible. The skin of koi is far from nature's choice in protection from the environment. It would make sense to me they also would be susceptible to skin damage from UV radiation. Here is a forehead with the hikui look.

Ootyboy - my pond is 8 feet deep and 30 ton. It is the high of summer now and on average my water temperature ranges from 24C to 27C. I have huge amounts of oxegen from two bottom drains churning over the water so there is not realy a cooler spot below.

After puncturing the bubbles and applying Woundmed, it was a week and no further signs of the blisters. The koi is going on 6 years and is 83cm long but has the build of a sumo wrestler. In 2007 it received the San Diego friendship trophy at the Cape Town Show in South Africa.

Thanks for all the responses. The most interesting thing happend today: I check the Showa again, and all the bubles have disappeard with no interference from me. I think it must be weather related!! At least that is my guess.

I got an answer back from one of the breeders I buy from and was told that it is something they see in koi from time to time and it will disappear on it's own once the water warms up.

We'll see.
