Koi egg farming the Hillybilly way

DH wanted eggs to bring to the mud pond in the country so I spent all morning vacuuming as many as I could. The entire pond bottom was covered with eggs.

I sure hope they suck up the rest of those hundreds of thousands of eggs I missed. I don't want any babies.

Bad, bad fish.

I sure my Koi's long fast this year helps to prevent some of that mess.

That's what I thought, too, Bruce.

I fasted them for the first time ever. When the water temp would drop, I wouldn't feed them for 2-3 weeks. When it warmed up for a few days, I fed them very lightly in the morning only. I can't stop feeding completely because my water rarely gets below 50°.

I also don't have any plants in the pond or anything for them to lay on, that's why the eggs are all over the bottom.

I'm fully expecting to get up in the morning and face the same thing again.

No, it's the calm before the "snow" storm.

We took all the eggs to the mud pond. It will be interesting next year to see if any hatch and survive the Bass, Catfish, snakes, turtles and birds of prey.
