Ok, SoCal ZNA, Best Baby vs Baby Champion

Can someone please explain the difference to me? Best in sizes (1 and 2, 3 and 4, etc) compete for "Champions" (Baby, Young, etc). So what is the difference between "best Baby" and baby Champion within the same show? Since I am an annally attentive logical thinker, having both awards within the same show simply isn't making any sense to me so I need some kind of explanation please.

Inquiring minds want to know!

Steve

Honey here is how Don explained it when you asked before:

Winners of Size 1 and Size 2 compete for Baby Champion award; once that's been chosen, there's a vacancy -- so they move another one up to fill it.

Then those two Best of Size fish compete for the Best Baby award.

Think of it as a 2nd Best Tosai award.

Make sense, Steve?

Guess that's as good a description as any, Henry.

I guess it is way of covering the smaller sized koi, but at gardena it wouls have been nice to see Adult Champion so all the mid-size would be covered too...

Reserve anything in awards means second does it not?

So why do this? Otherwise, everyone with a first place koi of any variety in size i and 2 can believe that they have the runner up to the baby Champ. Mac

I know the young koi show at Champ 2 years ago we needed to cover all size classes. The show only went up to size 3, but the run down was this:

All sizes eligible for: GC(with emphasis on Size 3)
BGC: was open to size 1&2(with emphasis on Size 2)
Best Baby: was open to only size 1

Then the other awards were "Best in Size" and "Friendship"

The judges were brieled on the Awards and where to spread the Awards around. I think the total for that show was around 45 fish with 8 awards given out.

To get back to the topic: I know Gardena gets alot of fish entered in Size 1 and 2, so knowing the numbers they can cover size 1 with an award....

Well maybe I need this to be explained in more detail now. Here is what was posted for the SoCal Show:
Baby Champion: Kohaku, Size 2, Don & Brenda Chandler
Best Baby: Gin Rin Gosanke, Size 2, Don & Brenda Chandler

So both Baby Champ and Best Baby were size 2. The explaination that Best Baby was like a Reserve Baby Champ then makes sense, I think. So then it comes back to Mac's question as to why this is done. And I thought this would be a short thread after I responded to Steve.

Tony . . .

Both the Baby Champion and the Best Baby at Gardena were Size 2.

No idea why there wasn't an Adult Champion this year. Seems there has been one in the past?
