? ... Luke, where does this come from? Showa are not typically bred in mud ponds. They are bred in more controlled conditions and not released to the mud until initial culling eliminating the non-Showa fry.

My guess would be yes. The environment can change the value for a particular genotype.

luke...Is there a reason you started a whole thread to describe natural selection? I think Darwin handled that quite some time ago. Really long winded, obvious and quite useless. Seriously...2 minutes of my life I can't get back.

Gary . . .

From what I've read, it would appear that Genotype remains fixed while the Phenotype can be modified?

I'm assuming you are wanting to play 20 questions, since your initial premise is typically cryptic and devoid of context.
Once again, I'll try to play along for the moment.
Several years ago (before you got into a pissing contest that earned you a long time-out) you once proposed the notion something along the lines that Koi are determined in the embryonic phase by virtue of the aquatic environment the egg develops in.
Is that the road you are starting down?

BTW... lest you misunderstand, I do appreciate your frankness when you have an opinion. It is always a good thing to know what someone really thinks. As to the rest... like I said, I think Lewis Black really is funny

Environmental 'noise' tends to increase the probability of adaptation to the habitat so we are talking extremes. Example could be sex determination could be influenced during early development by water temperature.

Could you kindly provide evidence with confirmable data to support this claim.

Thanks
