It is a nice unit, no question, but the price is a bit high. Very clever foam removal design!
Not sure what the units are going for these days? But if you are a 'handy' experimenter by nature, you can try the following for a little under $1000 all in:
Parts:
AquaC protein skimmer model 2000 ( 42 inches tall)
Danner Mag Drive submerible water pump Model 2400 ( 2400 gallons per hour)
Remove the gate value from the body of the Aqua C unit to allow a free flow of return water ( this will tweek the performance). Place the unit a filter bay.
Attach the pump with one inch clear tubing ( again it tweeks the performance). Fix the overflow pipe so that a line brings the waste water to an overflow pipe in the filter or onto the lawn.
This unit is very efficient and will foam like a dog with rabies!

Great for spring time to stay ahead of green water until the biofilm is ramped up and takes over, choking off the green water cells. - JR
