Don,
The foam once it settles is good for watering your plants and orchids as well.

Like I said, it works, Stan -- but it only works 'a little.'

Our one air stone unit is about as basic as it gets. More air, bigger tube, longer travel distance, incorporating a venturi, or a TT -- or any & all the above -- would increase effectiveness exponentially.

FYI: There are a whole bunch of DIY designs out there on the net.

The Febis worked but were barometric pressure sensitive and under sized for a typical koi pond. The Clarity far outperformed the Febis based on the ones I have seen.

It is a nice unit, no question, but the price is a bit high. Very clever foam removal design!

Not sure what the units are going for these days? But if you are a 'handy' experimenter by nature, you can try the following for a little under $1000 all in:

Parts:

AquaC protein skimmer model 2000 ( 42 inches tall)

Danner Mag Drive submerible water pump Model 2400 ( 2400 gallons per hour)

Remove the gate value from the body of the Aqua C unit to allow a free flow of return water ( this will tweek the performance). Place the unit a filter bay.
Attach the pump with one inch clear tubing ( again it tweeks the performance). Fix the overflow pipe so that a line brings the waste water to an overflow pipe in the filter or onto the lawn.

This unit is very efficient and will foam like a dog with rabies! Great for spring time to stay ahead of green water until the biofilm is ramped up and takes over, choking off the green water cells. - JR

Thank you for posting the pics Erwin, helps one get a better perspective. Is that the large model? Are you happy with the results of the unit?

How many gallons is your pond and what is the fish load?

Please don't tease us, show us your whole pond in a picture.

Clarity pics

These were taken June 07. I removed the discharge pipe to collect the good fertilizer water for my bosai and catalogue the discharge. I emptied the tray daily, sometimes twice a day.
