Comments please on this Sanke

What do you think of this tosai?

I'm still too new to justify a super nice fish, however I would like to move from pond fish from the local nursery to something a bit better. Just picked this guy up and curious what the more learned eye has to say.

Thanks

Grant

THAT is NOT a pond fish.
It lacks nothing but time to prove itself.
the Sumi will/should change...but the current Sumi gives you a good idea where the sumi will end up.

The only characteristc that can be seen as a negative is the almost equal striping in the pecs...that too could change.
An impressive "move-up."

Good show fish for today. Nice pattern and bright colors. I can't tell about the beni as it looks a little bit photo shopped, but I would keep an eye on the beni on the lower half of the fish. This is a straight beni plate and sometimes that plate type will give you problems as the fish grows in terms of kiwa strength and tightness ( pattern breaks or gets smaller as it is not so elastic) . Otherwise a very showy fish!

Thank you Luke. I'm very happy with him.

Not touched up, unless by "photo shopped" you meant something less literal. But thank you for the comments.

Luke hit it. he's 8" or so, sex I'm not sure and from Sakai. (by the way, choked on my drink a little @ "talking about the koi")

I'm thinking about showing him in the Nozomi young koi show up here in Washington... The thought terrifies me, but sounds like it might be worthwhile???

Thanks again to all for the comments.

Thanks for the updated info on your koi, Grant.

I'd definitely show this young fish soon -- it's a 'today fish' and no doubt should do well.

And it's probably male, since it's such a highly finished 'cut flower' at this tender age.

Very nice finished young sanke. I have a feeling that he will do well at the Nozomi young koi show. Speaking of which, when is the Nozomi young koi show and, if my memory serves me right, will it be held at Pan Intercorp again this year? Also, you mentioned that the breeder is Sakai. I am assuming that it is Sakai of Hiroshima and not Sakai of Isawa. Again, nice young sanke!

Yes Lam, I believe he's from Sakai of Hiroshima.

The young koi show is indeed at Pan Intercorp, and is on June 14. And by the response here, I guess I'll give it a try. (keep an eye out for my next post titled "how do I get my little fishie to the show?)

Thanks again,

Grant
