Effects of Color Enhancing Food

Howdy folks. I sent pics out to some of my friends the other day. Dick came back with the comment 'Looks like a Showa is turning into a nice Shiro' I had to smile obviously. Not because this was true, but because I screwed up a nice Shiro by playing with Color Enhancing food a couple seasons back.

Not the best pictures - but you can see where the secondary beni has popped up on the head and tube. Will the eventually go away or is this something I should just chalk up to yet another mistake?

Tim , had the samething happen to a nice Shiro of mine . Do you remember the breeder of yours ?

I sold mine last summer for less then half what I paid for her . The plan is to go over to the new owners pond and if the Hi has gone down , go back later a steal her !

Note To Self : "Stop Buying Tosai !"

Tim, are you sure it was the color enhancing food or genetics or water quality?

Tim,

I had the same thing happen to me, changed the food back to something with less colour enhancer and the secondary Hi went away. Well worth a try.
My Omosako Shiro was 75cm, so if spoiled for life, would have been a big issue for me!!!

I'm just pleased to have her back as she once was.

I do not use any color enhancing food but an utsuri of mine became a poor showa and it happened very quick . I do not think that color enhancing food will not bring out anything that is not there in the first place . Probably the breeder was trying to improve the confirmation on his showas and it was only when the fish came out of the mud pond a nisai that it showed up .
Regards
Eugene

I'm guessing one of the parents was showa. Color enhancing food will make the white yellow but I don't think its going to have much impact on secondary hi appearing (which can appear pretty fast).
