I agree that Torazo does still breed Sanke. He mentioned a couple years ago that he was concentrating more on Kohaku and Showa and "not so much" on Sanke. His fish tend to bulk more at Nisai/Sansai than Sakai fish do. Not that there isn't any blood mixing, but just an observation from the last 5 trips I've made since '05.

But we can see that at some european dealers website that they have high end sansai and yonsai of Toshio's line. As far as Dainichi is involve I know that some good friends of mine from the Philippines have been waiting for 2 years to get real tategoi from him. Shintaro's mostly goes to european collectors. Maybe in the next year or two in a show in Nrocal they will start showing up(matsunosuke). I hope they come out in the best condition in the next coming years.
Michael

Russ has brought many Nisai and several Sansai in over the last couple years. If you want to see more, contact Russell, or better yet, make sure everyone knows of the quality of Sakai's fish and where to get them. I'm sure if he had an increase in sales he'd be able to bring more in that would suit the taste of the more discerning buyers looking for that level of quality fish.

Michael, don't have to wait for next year or two. Just come up this year again for our NorCal show - you will see some Matsunosuke including Ann's Matsunosuke avatar.

The kohaku that I got from Russ last year is really amazing. She has gone to a couple of shows and keeps on getting better.

When I first started out in the hobby, not alot of dealers brought in Sakai(Isawa) fish here in NorCal. The ones that did bring in the fish looked to be too finished by conventional teachings. Back then who wanted to buy a Sakai(Isawa) Nisai that was only 12inches and carried a price tagged of a larger Nisai? Not very many people....So those who carried this breeder before stop doing so. I know of one hobbyist who made Sakai(Isawa) a name here on the West Coast and that was Tom Lansing with his many wins with that nidan Kohak in the late 90's.

Ten years ago I had an Isawa fish with a high price tag but I think that a lot has changed since then ; Looking at the Tosai Kohaku from Bently there were 2 fish #21 and #22 both 37cm long both nice patterns one a typical Isawa fish the other a larger frame . May be in 15 years both would be the same but the other bulkier fish fetched over 6g and the Isawa looking one less than 3 . All my Asian friends like these chubby fish may be it is because they chubby cheeks or who wants to wait for 15 years for a fish to develop . Well next year I will try and bid on some and see how they turn out . May be bid on all fish with #14 as I understand that is an unlucky #in Asia .
Regards
Eugene
