Latest issue of Koi Nation

Has any of you guys receive the latest issue of Koi Nation yet? I believe that they hit the post officer earlier this week. I am going through withdrawals right now from not having my monthly dose of koi magazine!

Yea, I guess you're technically right but isn't this a little like taking your girl friend to your wife's favorite Restaurant? JR

Funny that you mention that Bob, as we are undertaking a complete redesign of the site to accommodate an online magazine.

Thats great Brian, but if you do not mind, one personnel comment; I am not one who likes digital magazines, I do not mind waiting for the hard copy , I enjoy pulling off the shelf to refer too over and over. It is probably my generation, but even though the cost may be higher, I would try and produce a hard copy magazine, just my two cents.

Bob,

Most people would agree with you. Unfortunately, the market just won't support a magazine that's not associated with a national club. Sad, but true. The cost associated in production are prohibitively high, and I don't think that most people realize how much work goes into producing a magazine like this and the number of people needed to make it happen.

That being said, the online version will be free so don't look a gift horse in the mouth!

Yeah, but economic reality always wins. Tune up your printer!

Fantastic, Brian! ...I'd be happy with 'just' your reporting of the perspective from Japan.

I see that as an economic reality also- printers are NOT cheap and mailing is also a bear. But here's the thing, a printed magazine really separates the professionals from the amateurs. I mean, every club has a newsletter now and anyone with a moderate amount of skill can now put together a webpage and collect articles. It makes this potential 'common'. And common means , in the law of supply and demand, that things like information become base commodities.
I'd be interested to know if Rinko is a viable entity any more. I get that the margins are better but the circulation is suspect I would guess? So many sources of the same information.
Brian, please don't let my comments take the wind out of your sails ! I'm glad you're trying.
But the mind boggles thinking about the number of outlets being established for a relatively small community of dedicated koi keepers. How many ads could there be to possibly go around? And these days, even advertisers are creating their own 'educational articles' within their own webspace.
Could there be such a thing as too much education leading to disinterest?
Just some thoughts - JR
