Both are passionate breeders and as brothers, I wouldn't wish to have to distinquish between the two.
Toshio is the apple of my eye, because as a younger brother in the culture he had to start his business on his own and did not inherit his father's. ( i'm not demeaning the older brother as this was cultural ) but it does show the intense effort Toshio had to overcome to get started. His contribution to the industry alone to bring magoi into the koi again and now to produce marusome Sumi is pretty impressive.
take either one of the brothers out of the industry and it would be a lot poorer for it.
Just as there are "spinoffs in television" there are spinoffs from breeders. I can think of two excellent Japanese ones because of their relationship with Toshio. We have Nisei koi farm domestically speaking in the USA because of Joe and Mat's relationship with toshio
Many of my closest Kichii's depended on Toshio's matsunosuke bloodline fish for their enjoyment and competition at shows..
Just as all of us contribute to KB, if we took some out of the mix, the whole is poorer for it.
so as you can see I'm a Toshio Fan but wouldn't ever want to not recognize the contribution of his brother.....
I think any hobbyist who gets a chance to breed koi should opt for the experience. It makes you appreciate what it takes to be one. ( sorry no comments on longfins)
