Hey Tony, have you heard of this 5.5 head lengths on tosai concept before? If so, then does it apply to nisai and older koi as well? The reason why I ask is because I pulled out some of my Nichirin mags yesterday and did some measurements. Apparently, the older the koi is the smaller the body is compared to the head length. Anyways, just curious is all.

Hi Lam, I have heard of the 5.5 head lenghts on tosai before and what I have studied is that the ratio being as it is because you generally want to find a longer slender tosai to begin with. As I say slender I mean health in that aspect too. As with anything in the foundation of development of conformation a fish must have a sound bone structure to support the muscle tone that will develop later.

What I failed to mention in that "tidbit" is that it is helpful in regards to fish Nisai and up....

Hi Tony, just to make sure that I understand you right, you are saying that the 5.5 head length concept does NOT apply to nisai and older koi. Is this correct? From my measurements of older koi, it seems that they are about 4 to 4.5 head lengths long.
