Help with fighting the toughest stain of ick I've seen

Dim the light down some also....it's way to bright to see much of anything.

It dose take a little getting used to so that is why I suggested using a low power fish in dim light to see if you see movement.

What you don't want to be fooled by are:

air bubbles - dark very well define circles with a black or brown ring
green algae- a cell but no movement
fibers
dust

I will post some examples of parasites . Can you guess this one?

I'm searching my slide now for it. Nothing is moving What magnification should I be at, my options are X100 X300 and X1000 to find an spot clear like that?

very good Renee. This one is stained. Usually this is a black mass with 'rolling black sand-like mayterial inside. But you can always see that U shape in the center and the entire thing tends to 'roll' when under the pressure of the cover slip. JR

I tried turning down the light, and was looking and looking for quite a while. These shots are the only things I could find that may be something. They are at X300.

Did I find anything? I think the second one from the bottom is ich, no clue thou, my eyes hurt I didn't know if that was a fluke or something in there on another, but I don't know if the spots on the tail line up with that.

If you learn to identify flukes, ich, trichodina, chilodonella and costia (if your scope can handle costia) you will cover most of the bases. The way the bumps erupt, I think your fish have Lymphocystis which is a virus similar to carp pox. Under the scope there will be huge enlarge cells. It is troublesome, cannot be cured with any medication, but only weakly contageous and less deadly than many of the parasites.

Grant, you multiply the magnification of the eyepiece (ocular) by the magnification of the objective lens on the rotating turret below to get the total magnification. Your objectives lenses are 4X, 10X and 40X. Your eyepiece is probably 10X but check to be sure. It will be marked on the outer edge. Therefore, your total magnification is 40x, 100X and 400X for the three objectives on the rotating turret.

Without the pulsating movement, it's hard to tell for sure, but this looks like a fluke to me.
