Got THUMBS

How can you tell that a young fish will get thumbs? Pecs looked good until about 2 yrs old then they started to split after the first ray.

I had a Ogata Asagi that had thumbs, the lead ray finally grew long enough to trim the pecs into form. That waiting was about 2 years.

She is not a show fish so I dont think I would try to trim them but did you notice any sings from your Asagi that it would develop thumbs?

What I noticed was that both lead rays were damaged when I bought it as tosai. The quality of the Asaigi, beside the fact of that problem was pretty good to play around with. From what I saw as the fish matured was the gap between the lead ray and the rest of pec would fill in or come together as the fish grew. My Asagi is show quality, but it did bother me when I saw it so I trimmed it.
