Exclamation Koi Breeding!! Help!

OK, obviously I'm a noob. I came back from work today and I found thousands of koi eggs in the preformed pond of around 250-300 gallon. I thought they were both males since the day I bought around 3 weeks ago, well I thought wrong. The eggs are simply laying at the bottom right now, there is no spawning brush. I was wondering how would I go about this? Do I remove the two koi? Any pointers from the more experienced koi hobbyists?

What do you want to do? Do want the eggs to hatch and keep the fish? If so, remove the parents before they eat all the eggs.

If you don't want babies, let the parents have caviar.

If you let them hatch, you're going to need a much larger pond this year.

I do plan on keeping them, but I'm not sure if the combination was a good one since it was so unexpected (a gin rin chagoi with a shusui from kodama koi farm). I am planning on constructing a 1500-2500 above ground pond, hopefully soon.

I think Luke and I are on the same page here. In such a tiny pond there is no way your filtration could keep up with a load like that. If I was you I'd be scooping out eggs and doing a MASSIVE water change (don't forget the dechlor). The ammonia load in your water has quite likely been spiking through the roof for several hours now, so cleaning up the mess ASAP is your #1 priority in my book.

I'm no expert, but I think Luke and Papabear are right on the money. Ive heard numbers like 5000 Gal being too small for fry with extremely capable filters...

.02 cents.

I have heard of some scary stuff about koi spawning and I sure hope that this doesn't happen to me. YahTah, perhaps you could keep just a small amount of the spawn to grow out and learn from. Just a suggestion!

Move about 100 eggs to an aquarium or tub so you can practice raising them. Then, when you have more space and more suitable breeders you will be better prepared.
