The Showa seems too short for the head size, giving it a stubby appearance. Perhaps the photo angles play a role in this?

The Kohaku's beni gives me concern. Along the edges, especially the lower edge of the shoulder Hi, I think I am seeing white between the scales and an isolated scale. If this is accurate, I regret to say that you having fading Hi.

My observations are pretty much in line with Mike's, especially where the showa is concerned. The body seems badly out of balance when comparing the head to the rest of the fish, which is too bad because the pattern looks to have some potential to fill in better down the road.
The Kohaku seems to have a better body conformation, but the beni has some questionable aspects that only time will fully reveal.

thanks for the comments. The momotaro dealer was so confident and convincing that the showa will be so good in the future. I guess I should not listen to this dealer any more.

got the maruyaama from an auction, attracted by the funny shape of hi plate that apparently caused by fading Hi.

cheers.

fan.

You've seen them in person.
We've only seen pictures.
Did you see the same things Mike and I mentioned, or are we being mislead by photo angles?

the kohaku hi was not very red, did not notice the white between the scale until you all pointed it out. It will a good lesson, will take photo to track the changes.

i have always got some doubt over the momo dealer , not the most honest guy. well he has to sell all his fish. asked him about the short body, he claim it was born in August 07 plus many good word about him from other hobbyist so decided to believe him.

this is all part of my learning curve will see how they turn out later and continue update.

cheers..

From the pics I saw those koi r both too young to assess responsibly. Momotaro dealers know how Momotaro showa develop and how they will look in the future, and from what little I know of how their's grow, it looks right on course to me to be awesome in the future. I could be wrong, but the body shape is their signature and what has won them many competitions, so to me it is 1-3 years too early to tell on that one. The Hi on the other one looks to me to still be emerging. Be smarter than to base credibility about bloodlines and dealers from an internet chat site. Most of the posters here who seem so innocent have businesses their bling bling depends on too.

What's the tag price? If you don't mind me asking. I hope you didn't pay too much for them.

JG, Long time no see.
I'm pretty sure I can name all the dealers on the board on one hand, and neither Mike nor I have any such business interests. Just giving our observations based on what can be seen.
