Thanks, Michael.

After taking all the advice received into consideration, we've dedcided that the only acceptable way to err is on the side of caution. So Randy's going to pick up 4 cf of AC next time he's out to the factory in Colton -- then at his convenience we'll dump and refill the two cylinders ourselves.

It's just not worth it to take a chance on that copper & zinc combo when my kit can't test down to the level I'd need to to be sure that it's safe.

Don,

Your pond really inspires me. Thank you for posting all the pictures. Your fish and pond are beautiful, and very functional. Good job, and great vision.

Don,
Any update on the clarity unit. Also what's going on with the water softener?

Hello All . . .

UPDATE:

1. We swapped out the two AC units w/ KDF55 (containing copper) for units with nothing but AC. We've been running the system (Water Softener output blended with AC output) long enough to achieve our initial goal of pond GH = 50 (vs. 150 from the tap). No change in pond pH; ammonia and chlorine from system = 0. We flow 20 gph 24/7 which overflows to waste via a standpipe in the sump PLUS we manually replace the water lost from flushing the sump and the two Ultima 6K filters EOD.

2. Clarity Unit still produces foam like a rabid dog, even though ORP remains above 320 and nitrates were about 5 ppm the last time I checked. I'm guessing the softer water Here's a pic of the foam produced over a 24 hour period (FYI: The pile starts on a brick ledge located 17" below the output pipe's bottom edge).

PS: The water looks better than ever.

Don, Which Clarity unit did you get, the largest one? Also are you thinking of using Ozone with this unit?

Hello Bob . . .

Yes, we got the large Clarity unit.

As for ozone, it's my considered opinion that there are much better, much safer and much less expensive options for koi ponding -- unless one's water is absolutely atrocious.

And ours wasn't that bad to begin with.

Don, Good to know. Would you use the shade sails again if you had to do it over again?
