Opinions?

What do you think of this Showa's potential?

Tosai
10.5"

Wife is bidding on him/her. I really don't have a say... but was curious.

Thanks,

Grant

I'm with Larry, I think a picture could really sway my decision.

Nice looking body. Nicely shaped pectoral fins. In all other respects, I have only concerns. The Hi looks thin and fading. The bright red of it is deceptive. Look at the scales along the kiwa. Look at the blush of red in front of the caudal and in front of what would be sashi. The long narrow step of red has lower edges with fringes. It gives the impression of a step that once wrapped more deeply, but has eroded from the bottom up. The white seems too white. Sorry.

I agree with Mike on all points. It looks like hard Beni.

Well I'm happy then, it appears I'm learning something. Not near as thorough or accurate as to why, but I told my wife "nope, too finished for such a young fish, red is too hard".

Thanks guys,

Grant

I don't want to sound like another voice in the "me too" chorus, but I'm afraid I'll have to. The Kiwa looks like a very ragged sawtooth that is going nowhere but down, and the hi and shiro do have a hard look to them...

I have no idea what the price is for this fish, but it always comes down to - why else would the breeder sell it as TOSAI if it has a serious future?

Hi Grant I, too, agree with the above-stated assessments. One thing I want to point out though is I love the head and shoulders on this koi. Very beautiful. Now if it wasn't for all the weak points stated, this would be a nice tosai to add to one's collection.
