My first koi

Hello everyone,

Some of you might remember i posted a thread previously on buying expensive Momotaro kois or cheap ones. My plan was to get three kois of Gosanke variety and i have no idea how on earth i got this koi. It is my first and it is special because my wife wanted it too. This koi had very good body shape and it was arguably the most friendly of all kois in the pond. It is a doitsu karashigoi from Konishi farm. I did not take the koi out to measure but the dealer told me it is roughly about 40cm and it is a tosai. I bought it basically because of the structure and its genetics. Hopefully it will not fail me.

i know in my previous thread i decided on cheap kois but i got sucked in at the shop. But i am very happy i made this purchase. Besides my lady did not complain and i said this fish is hers not mine...hehe.

The photo is taken from the dealer's website. The picture quality is lousy but it gives some idea. Will take proper pictures and measurements once its in my hands. BTW please be honest with your evaluation, if you think this is a lousy koi let me know quick, as it is only booked for me and i can still change.

Regards
Mark

I have to really laugh, when everyone has the same comment about a koi purchase

To everyone in this hobby, who has said the same...

I got sucked into buying this koi. Or, that it was more money than I had intended to spend.

Gosh, we have all said the same.

In fact, I doubt that there is anyone who in this hobby would not have expressed the very same as you. Nor, had not the very same feeling...but, who nonetheless, upon reflection will look at that beautiful koi which they had over-spent and purchased once this fish is in their pond and say aloud..."Gosh, she's so beautiful, isn't she!"

Thus, no regrets.

Just sit back enjoy...

Your wife loves it, therefore it is now and will forever be the most beautiful Koi you own (until she says differently)
It isn't a bad looking Koi, and a splash of yellow in a pond of Gosanke is a very beautiful thing. It isn't a variety I get excited about, but then again, if my wife fell in love with one all that would have to change...

Base on what I see in the pic, the head is going to be over-powered by the size of the body. So, little head big body..

Was told that it was about 40cm. The head does look big in the picture but that is due to the angle of the shot. In real life she looks proportionate to me.

Thanks Lee for your encouragement. Weird thing is i was looking at really cheap kois as all the members here advised me to. My wife was happy that i decided to take this route and then came this yellow submarine whose price is not cheap but the dealer manage to sale talk us into buying it. My wife got sucked in too, because she has always wanted a yellow koi. Now it is up to us to grow it to its full potential

It is a doitsu karashigoi. It is a mix between chagoi and something else i am not sure what. Done very successfully by konishi. It supposedly has great ability to grow really big and fast. The mother of this koi has won awards and is now about 100cm. I saw the mother in a front cover of a Japanese magazine and she was lovely.
