when putting plants in planters in your pond what is recomended to put into the planter

Would love to have you consider plants that don't need a rooting medium like spearmint or watercress...cept the koi like em to eat so you may have to put them above the waterfall where the scaley munchkins can't munch them.......

I have grown yellow iris and cyperus in pots containing only rocks to support them. They received sufficient nutrient from the pond water to grow satisfactorily.
