I was at the Fry's Electronic at Brokaw and I could smell the smoke....

Its still raining here as well, snow level down again, but we did have 3 nice day's in the 100* ranges. Funny, just a couple of day's before that though we had snow falling.

I saw the news last night about the tornado's.... Scary.. Ironic too, just as I read the headline my daughter put on Twister!

You guy's have my heart felt wishes for better.. Fires and smoke are not fun!

The weird weather contributed to this fire too. A fellow had a permit to burn brush to clear land, this is OK to do in a normal spring as the vegetation is still moist and green and the fire burns slowly and smoldering.
But we've had maybe half the rain we need and it stopped a month or so early. Plus last week we had a freak heat wave for three days at 100F plus heat, so everything is already really dry. Not a great time to ask for or be issued a burn permit. Someone just wasn't thinking.

Here's a map of the area of the Santa Cruz Mts. fire.
It's not a hugh fire, 3,000 + acres, but it's was heading towards an area with a fair amount of people. I know they evacuated about 300 or more homes. Lots of livestock in that area, horses, goats, etc. Most got evacuated to the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds, but some folks had the fire come so fast they only had time to let them free before they had to get out of there. I wonder what chance a koi pond would have in a big forest fire? I know there are a few in those mountain, been on koi pond tours in the area. Hope they are all right.

Try having fry eggs in show tanks through all of this. On Tuesday I was buying 40 blocks of ice. Now I've got them covered and insulated with the 800W heaters going. Bumpy ride!

Yep I talked to him this morning, poor Joe can't even go for a bike ride, he rides up in those hills that are burning.
His shop is within 10 minutes of the fire, sure hope it is safe from the flames.

I hope Joe's friend Matt Baggin's house is okay. He lives in that part where the fire is called the "Sire".

Then yesterday I was watching the news and saw a torando and hale hit a suburb in LA....Nancy M said it was raining cats and dogs where she was.......Then grass fires here in there all round the state....I guess this is the only state where you can actually see the different micro climates at work.
same here in Sacto

Northern California too

Hi, I'm in northern California too. Yes, strange weather all around. I sure hope we have a lot fewer 100 degrees weather this summer, otherwise I may set up residence in our fridge.

The temperature is fluctuating in our pond outside, and I was wondering about the effect on the fish during this rapid change in weather, too.
