I agree with Russ. The Japanese breeders are a very crafty bunch. They 'adjust' pricing for expenses and also sell koi at different prices for different countries. The best profits are in Holland and Germany for them due to currency. And the most unsophisticated consumer are Americans. So the margins are riduculously high to begin with for the grades sent over here- lots of room for the Japanese to hold the price or lower/adjust it. Free fish in a shipment are one way of keeping distributors happy when costs rise. I have found Japanese breeders to be master capitalists. JR

Dead right. I dealt with japanese investor/distributor in my past life, and Japanese in current life. Americans are snack for them. Maybe some of the dealers have play a role in making us easier snack ? just maybe.
