here is a sanke with the opposite situation from yours. It's a two year old now. this pic was taken at 1 1/2. This koi had sumi in the shoulder (albeit in the red) but no tail stop sumi which it needs desparately to complete the pattern. Since sumi is always strongest towards the tail, I took a chance with this koi to see what would happen. Todate, on it's left side just after the
heavy shoulder beni and before the first small beni spot youi can barely make out a touch of sumi. Right now that dot is a solid piece of sumi about the same size as the piece in front of it in the heavy shoulder beni and threatening to connect those two sumi spots into one big one. So I still have hopes this fall for black to appear furthur back. I have a picture of it as tosai but is too large a file for me to shrink it down ( if I knew how). There was not indication of black in the tail stop area, but one always has hope
