Aeration

Hi,

I am installing an additional aeration for my main pond. I used to put a uni ring(or a similar huge airstone... so it produces fine bubbles) I am thinkin about removing the uni ring and just allow the aeration come out free from the pipe (it will look like a huge bubble bubble from the bottom of my pond going to the surface and definitely move the water surface at a much greater strength).

I am wondering if this is a good idea, or is it the same thing and whetehr i remove the uni ring or not, no difference in the oxygen supply?

Turbulence created may be greater, however, your air/water contact area will be greatly reduced... Less O2 for the water... Something to consider.

It is generally recommended that aeration be as fine, small bubbles as you can manage and not have algae growth/biofilm blocking air flow from the airstone. The mass of smaller bubbles moves more of the pond water from the bottom to the surface, increasing the rate at which water is exposed to the surface for oxygenation. Large bubbles give surface action, but do not create as much current moving water volume to the surface.
