Well my thoughts are with Kentaro and his family and staff as the word gets out. I hope it will be understood that we are all victims in a sense so that there is no assessment of blame only a focused effort to eliminate the cause.

Regarding the "other Sakai"....you don't suppose other fish farms would be interested in the genetics that has spawned some AJS Champions recently and might have gotten fish from SFF do you? I think it would be mistaken to suspect that any aquisitions would not have been handled and QT'd with the utmost care. Breeders know the seriousness of what an event could do to their way of living .

One of the things I learned as a bencher from the Miller-Morgan review was my towel I carried thru my belt that I wiped my hands on after dipping in the disinfectant after each contestant's koi were processed, had to go. I felt as long as my hands were clean but NO! they had us using paper towels each time that could be discarded

well, you would think?! But I gurantee you, some will be calling for the head of Sakai and anyone associated with his fish all the way down the distribution chain. Some love to kick a guy when he's down. You can see the posts building already around a sense of false righteousness. More trouble to come from those same small folks- watch------

Not to worry. The International Porta Potty Cesspool Association has taken the bull by the horns and formed it's own crack team of investigators. HAH will no doubt stay right on top of any and all breaking developments to guarantee that all the information is absolutely factual.
Problem solved.

I think blame is a wasted effort, but unfortunately some people have to go that route. As one of those with koi involved in this growing mess I wonder why those who don't have koi involved are the ones claiming to be most affected and calling for heads to roll.

What we should do is look at the positive that comes out of this tragedy, the raising of awareness on proper QT procedures and how one should establish a relationship with one's breeder/dealer. Of course I am an idealist.

Hopefully it will also give us the opportunity to establish good protocols for future koi events.

I want to thank Ray and Bill for being there and helping me make informed decisions with my koi.

Mike

Khv---qt

Every new koi we receive goes into a QT Tank (3900 gal)
for atleast six weeks. We have a schedule that we use for all the new fish. Every new fish in QT no exceptions. Also I just get fish from INC.
only. This is a very scarey time for all koi owners.

Thank God,

Now I know for sure that things will come out in the open.. I am sure in the next day or two we will have all the facts, and there will be no slander, or here say no opinons no innuendo's no insults. ... Just hard cold facts . We should all thank them for there investigation into this, what would we do without them.

Well it seems to be a witch hunt on other boards, but my thing now is I wish all involved a great recovery to a horrible issue.

Well, this too shall pass. But those very much on the outside of our hobby will squeak the loudest and try and inflict the most damage possible.
You know, people do not realize how traumatic and devastating the early presence of 'simple' aeromonas was, once upon a time. The first waves of aeromonas infections were thought to be something that was coming from Japan- some strange and deadly form of bacteria or virus. Because the US hobby was relatively young, and treatments other than water additives were unheard of, aeromonas often claimed 60- 90 percent of pond residents in one episode. No one understood the dynamics of parasites spreading aeromonas or being vectors for aeromonas under the right/wrong circumstances. And because there were no antibiotic injectables and the idea of treating the infection directly was a foreign concept, once you had it in your pond, the few fish that didn't die would be horribly disfigured. At one point, AKCA was considering recommending that all koi shows be postponed until there could be studies and 'cures' found for this ( and I quote) " highly contagious disease".
Fortunately we had no internet! So we just set about making things right and pointed fingers at no one- it was a disease and it was approached as such.
So we have HAH stirring the pot and a few others jumping on this to beat others over the head with. When I say certain individuals are bad for our hobby I think you can see what I'm saying in just this one mini- drama. There are three individuals and a few hens that have ceased on this for personal self aggrandizement and will use this for that personal agenda. It's so obvious it would be laughable if it didn't harm so many decent folks and send the mindless sheep down yet another path of confusion. JR

The San Diego show was cancelled in 1989 due to widespread aeromonas--to verify the interesting point you make, JR. I imagine the fear must have been about the same. Hopefully the hobby is about to turn the corner on KHV as well...

I do remember another famous Sakai bought fish from Sakai Hiroshima this year....
So, did you actually see him buying Koi or did you just see pictures of him at the auction?
