No. Hatched in 2005. So, 4th growing season now. Explains the 18" length.

Hi Ethan,

Thanks for the additional info. I produce Sankes with 2 very different looks - the Sanke you mentioned is from my all-american parent set that has no Matsunosuke blood in the background. It originates from Dainichi/Sadazo traits. The sumi will continue to expand some and consolidate in the future. Though its not a show fish, the quality is in the white ground, and the hi plate. Look at the face. The white is like milk, thick, and the hi plate and sumi consolidate and thicken over time. It's a steal for $125, just to watch the hi consolidate and for this quality of white on a male Koi. My goal for Sanke and Showa is to put the sumi in the white ground primarily, and that Koi reaches the goal, but the sumi will always be too heavy on that one for showing. Here are some siblings from the same spawn, same year. The white and red are consistent,... the sumi is the wild card on the one in your photo.

Best Wishes,
Brady

What a beautiful face on the first one, Brady. The white ground is wonderful. She has that trademark 'Brady Beni' that holds and deepens. Striking Sanke.

There is a lesson in her about koi photos. Some will look at the photo and see the lighter edges of scales within the Hi plate as indicating a problem. Not so! In person you would see that the scale edges are glistening, reflecting light. The Beni is immature, not imperfect. Photos that are not re-touched can be mis-read unless you understand what you are seeing.

Ethan,
Just my two cents..............and thats all it is worth!

This sanke is a step up from your other koi......a BIG one! I think it is very nice for the price and that you will get lots of years of enjoyment and learning from it!

Mike,
I think you hit a very big nail on the head with your above statement. That is an area that is often misunderstood. This is something you have to learn to look for on young fish. We have another fish that a lot of people would say the beni is weak, but it's another from Brady and it is the age and immaturity of the fish, not weakness of beni. Will post some pictures of fish in a couple of weeks; don't want to post them yet because it's getting ready to go to a show. I really like this fish and have talked to Brady about it. That's one of the privileges of being able to go back to the breeder and ask them questions.

Marc

Thank you very much for the amazing information on this one and its siblings. I think the sumi still looks pleasing to the eye on the one I am interested in as, for now, it seems to be mostly on the white foreground. The white is a nice white color...very different than some koi I have seen. Looks like your fish rarely get a "yellow head" syndrome.

How large do your males normally get? This particular Koi I am interested in is a little over 18 inches from what I am told. Can I expect 24 inches max?
