Thinking about one of these kohaku and a chagoi as well....

Love some thoughts on these three. They are $230, and are 12-15 inches in length. I am getting info on the breeder. They are either Suda like my Showa or they are Yamazaki or Kase.

I like the one on the left. The one on the right looks to have too dark of hi at this age.

I also really like the ginrin chagoi. The color looks even. It is also 14" long, $200. All are Japanese imports from this spring.

I am also getting info on how old they are. I may be able to pick one or two of them up by the 29th....

Are you basing all your observations on these photos or have you seen them in person?

I am considering them for the photos. I have a planned visit to the koi store in late June, and will make a final decision there. I may offer them $50 a piece to hold them for me till I get there. To me, that kohaku on the left and the chagoi would be worth that.

I have asked them to bowl both of them for me as well, so that I can get a better look at them. If I like what I see then, I may bite and pay for them ahead of time. Nice thing is I won't have to pay shipping.

I won't make a final decision until I either see them bowled very well or in person. They'd have to be pretty spotless for me to pay for them ahead of seeing them in person.

I wouldn't make a final judgement from these photos. Just wondering if these photos are good enough to get some opinions....

Can they bowl them and give you bowl shots of them? These are really horrible photos and I don't think you should consider spending any money on them at all without seeing at least some decent bowl shots.

that's what they are doing.

Her husband is in Japan on a business trip, and so it is just her right now. She said she would do her best.

I hope the water is what is making the bodies of these koi look so bad (big heads w/ thin bodies) . That look happens to older koi . Is this a dealer or Hobbiest ?

The left Kohaku looks like it either has Shimi's or is trying to be a Ai Goromo , the right Kohaku looks very finished (Male) for that size ?

GR Chagoi , S.W. Koi had them for $50 in Louisville and by the end of the summer you would have a 15" Koi . Use the other $150 for a nice little tosai to learn from .

That's just me , Troy

How old are the fish? I would take a camera with you and ask if you can take pics of the fish in a bowl.

I think the fish aren't being feed regularly or have some internal problem.

the fish are all pointed down as they are swimming down into the water, which is what is giving the strange appearance I think. The convenience of the place is what is helping with my decision, as I cannot afford to have koi shipped to me, or drive anywhere significant. This is a specialty koi store, owned by Mr and Mrs Kawayoke....

I have seen their fish before, and they seem to be very good quality. I don't think that they feed them for growth while they are in their setups.....that's all. My showa came from them, and you could see what happened to her once she got in my pond.

THe kohaku on the left I believe in in the shadow of another fish, which gives it a dark spot on the head.
At least I think so....
