I would imagine 2K gph is fine for a new light. As the light ages, it's effectiveness will be reduced. You won't hurt it by slowing down the flow, you'd only increase it's ability to eliminate algae and parasites.

I diverted
I had to get a hi flow pump to backwash my "otter" filter (another story). I had to be able to split the flow while running and combine the flow while back-washing. It works great.
Sorry for the messy photo. Took it after I got it hooked up. Not after cleaning up. L.
I have four 2" FLO brand from AE you can HAVE if you can wait a few days for shipping.
