should I cull this one?

TRUST ME, you would all cull all of my fish from your ponds, but my question about this one is more along the lines of whether I can learn anything from it, from my water quality, in the future. The pectoral fins have improved significantly since I bought it. It used to have very weak, stumpy fins for a longfin, but they are more flowing now.

Will/can the pattern change or improve? The scales I think are actually pretty decent....

Thanks,
Ethan

you already know what I am gonna say.

I do like some longfins....but not that one. The shape of the fins are not pleasing. the fish also looks pinched in at the shoulder area. You are heading the right way in your collection....get rid of this one and make room for something prettier.

There is ZERO to learn from that fish (I won't call it a Koi , I don't want to be banned from the Board) . Well , maybe one thing to learn , Little Ugly Fish (again , I won't use the word Koi) grow into Large Ugly Fish .

You asked !

There seems to be a consensus building here...
Longfins are longfins, and you can't learn anything about KOI from a longfin.
Wrong body conformation, wrong fins, wrong skin (hybridized skin not the same as a similar KOI).
We have ONE longfin because my DW loves 'em. It adds it's own flair to the pond, but it is not a Koi and never will be. We bred it to an orenji just to have some longfin ogons for next years club auction 'cause wger's love 'em. Otherwise, they're just a fish taking up valuable space in a KOI pond.
