Sorry to hear about the mishap with the pond. Everyone goes through it and it is a very hard lesson. I guess in times likes these the koi gods are testing your mental toughness, so the only thing to do is to get back in there and fix the thing like any champ would do.....Best of luck with the upgrade.

Thanks, Tony. Here's what I ended up doing:

I have the water incoming from the SC through a 3" line. Right now at 2,000 gph, draw down isn't too bad at all.

I poured in the K1 yesterday. I don't have the air diffuser yet (9" EPDM style). THe water was basically churning the K1 very little. I put in a line from the airpump anyway to just blow huge bubbles into the K1.

This morning I went to check on the pit, and the k1 is churning PERFECTLY.....

I should still add the air diffuser, right? Put it just above the drilled 3" cap?

Hello Ethan . . .

Like everyone else on this board who has kept a pond for any length of time, we can relate to your troubles having been through many of the same things ourselves -- so just hang in there, use this as a learning experience and soldier on.

Best wishes, Don

I could feel your pain as I read through your story!! Glad to hear it's behind you and most importantly, you are safe!!

A favorite fish doesn't have to be show worthy to be loved and appreciated. I have a few that I'll never part with that will never see a show ring and are taking up valuable water volume, but they are loved and I would be heartbroken if we lost them. So to your wife, I'm so sorry for the loss!!!

Aww that's so sad about your fish, like Sue said, they don't have to be pretty to be loved. In fact a lot of folks favorites are not great fish, but one of their first ones like you and your wife's.

Sorry you had to spend Father's Day with Uncle Murphy! But, hey now you know you survived the worst, it can only go up from here eh? Hope everything stays good from now on.

yeah, that's what I am hoping for. I keep telling my wife that the pond is an investment. Ever seen the movie "The Money Pit"?

Hang in there it will get better. I'll offer this up for you though: Here in VA all the Home Depots carry deer net usually in the outdoor garden section. It's real cheap and makes a great temp cover for ponds and q-tanks. I keep a spare roll around in case I or any of my koi friends nearby need it....and yes I learned that the hard way .
