Welcome to the club!

"I lost sleep, which I now believe is overrated"

Welcome to the club. That's why I am UP ALL NIGHT!! I look like this all of the time.
You saved the day. Or night. When I have lost one I am in a deep depression for weeks. They are like children to me. I am soooo very sorry for your loss. Try to remember what a good and safe life you had provided for your koi. Nothing really dies it's just set free to be something ealse! Lori
Am I saying something stupid again?

Someone please explain this, I just cannot picture what Steve is saying. I may be dense or I'm up too late or maybe both.

Ethan, sorry for your loss too. You did good by recovering.

If the wet side is inside the pond and the dry side is the 4" drain lines and you loosen up the plug, it may get sucked into the plumbing as the pipes rapidly fill and you'll never get it out. Some of the plugs have a small flange on them to keep that from happening though.

Water Level

Water seeks its own level.
Example: If you have two buckets of water and a pipe connecting the two. Fill one bucket with water. The filled bucket will will go through the pipe till both buckets are equally level.

It was a tough weekend.
Things have gotten worse. We were at the ER last night till 3:00 am because my wife had a 103 temperature, a severe headache and her neck was extremely sore. The only reason I convinced her to go was because she was afraid she had Meningitis. My in-laws came over while my father in law stayed to watch the house while my daughter slept, and we went to the ER.
SHe ended up having pneumonia.....they gave her a drip of antibiotics and she was dehydrated so they gave her fluids as well through an IV. She's feeling slightly better. Pray that she is given strength. She is pretty wiped out.
This morning I told my wife that since 3 of the last 4 nights I have gone to bed at 3 a.m., that is officially my new bedtime.
THanks,
Ethan

Flounder, Although Cindy's example is a possiblity, my reference was towards safety. If the dry end of the piping is say 4' lower than the water level of the pond when that plug is pulled out, then a tremendous suction is created (a velocity of about 50 ft per second initially). This could easily suck the hand of the submerged indiviual into the piping.....not a good thing.

Wow Ethan! It just won't end, will it? So sorry about your fish and glad you were able to fix the pond without electrocuting yourself.

Keep a close eye on your wife and don't hesitate to take her back to the ER if she continues to feel bad. I had bacterial spinal meningitis a few years ago and it almost cost me my life. I was flown to UC Davis with a 20% chance of survival, and I've lived with the repercussions ever since--peripheral neuropathy--which is something no one on this earth would ever want to have. I was mis-diagnosed with bronchitis, and if I had not returned to the ER and a different doctor, I wouldn't be talking to you right now. If she can't touch her chin to her chest, if her neck won't bend that way but feels best tilted back, go back to the doctor.....

will do.

My father has peripheral neuropathy. He also has Arachnoiditis, which resulted from him having some sort of procedure in the 70's where they injected dye into his spinal cord to see where a football injury had occured. Years later, they realized that they could not get all the fluid out of the column, which makes the column deteriorate. 6 years ago he was a normal, active 47 year old. Now he is 53, walks with a cane, and has trouble standing, walking, or even sleeping because of the neuropathy. I don't want my wife to get that as well.
Thanks for the concern.

Sorry about all that you guys are having to go through! I had pneumonia a few years ago. It sure does wipe you out!

I hope Marie isn't right about the meningitis, pneumonia is tough but not that tough. She will be really tired and weak for weeks after they say she's better. It's a slow go. Of course she's younger than I was so hopefully she'll bounce back sooner.

Tell Uncle Murphy to go home!
