Is this one of Junichi's (SuperKindai's) homebreds? If so, a lot of folks are going to get excited by the idea of finding a pearl among their fry-mutts.

Good looking Kohaku. Issues with the Beni. Need to see in person to really see. I expect peak in 2 years, perhaps 3 in cool water of Bay Area?

BTW, is the photo accurate re: imbalance of pectorals?

I think this kohaku has a slightly "boney" appearance around the shoulder area. It may just be the shadows, or it may just be me....

The gill plates also seem to go much farther back than any koi I have in my pond.....they look to go behind the pectoral fins. In addition, it looks short and stocky, similar to some stunted fish I used to have in my pond.

The head pattern bothers me the most. It is distracting to have the one side bald, and the pattern on the other side wrapping around the eye. Show fish? Probably not, but certainly a decent looking kohaku.

I like this kohaku. It appears very finished for this age but it should do ok if showed in the next 2 years.

Pattern: I like the pattern. The halve mask over the face is very interesting. Although only a one step over the body it creates enough interplay between the shiro and hi that it does not get boring.
Body: Not a text book body for it's age but I did buy a nissai with a similar body shape in October and I certainly do not regret it. She is now one of the best looking koi in my pond. So much for text books. So I like this body!
Hi quality: Not much sashi but some koi have sashi and some don't. So far I'm not convinced that sashi is a must. The hi does seems a bit hard and finished but it's not to say it's not good quality. This is only a pic but based on the pic I will take a gamble on this one. Shiro is nice and clean. Clean fins and clean eyes.

If I had to score this one I would give it a 7/10. If offered at a good price I'd spend the time to raise it.

never got past the body, unless the photo angle is totally weird, I can't get 4 1/2 head lengths in it's total length. If someone could have removed the pattern and just let us see the outline, I'd have quessed showa based on the build.
