Steve, thank you for your input. I know that there are many hobbyists who share your opinion. In fact, I know there are some who are probably reading this thread and nodding their heads in agreement.

You also mentioned a good point in that all koi, regardless of cost, should be treated the same. However, one can't help paying more attention to the more expensive show koi than the less expensive pond grade koi. Just human nature, I guess.
Lori, if my memory serves me right, I remember reading somewhere that there is a higher percentage of males than females in a given spawn. I don't quite know what the exact reason is but I suspect, and again this is a speculation, that it has to do with evolution and the fact that there's a higher chance of fertilitazion if there's more males per given female.
