UMKC 2nd Annual Open Show - 6 Weeks Away!!!

Just wanted to remind folks that are coming to the U.M.K.C. show the first weekend in August that reservations should be sent in ASAP. Our show vats are loaned to us so we want to make sure we have enough on hand to accomodate everyone. Poly Tank needs to know how many will be needed one week prior to the show.

The hotel where we arranged special room rates has a limited amount blocked for our event so be sure to get your reservations in right away. If we run out of rooms, we will try to get more at the arranged show rate, but there are no guarentees. Both smoking (limited number) and non-smoking rooms are available. It is the same hotel as last year, but they have gone through a major renovation which now includes a full reseturant on site. The name has changed, but it is the same location as last year right off the freeway at Lyndale just down the road from the show site. Show and hotel are 15 minutes from the airport. Hotel has shuttle available to airport and MOA.

VENDORS!!! We have ONLY ONE spot remaining for a wet vendor. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING joining us, please let us know before that space is gone. The K.H.V. Requirement has been waived although the vendor packet has not yet been updated so please disregard that page. We limit our wet vendors to only four. All other vendors, booths are still available at the rate of $150.00 each. After June 27th, the rate goes up to $175.00 so that deadline is also fast approaching. Get your reservation in ASAP to avoid the late registration hike. Payment can be made later as long as we have your committment you can avoid the higher booth rate. Our booth rates are the best value you will find anywhere at any show. We had a great "gate" last year and expect even better turnouts this year.

Bachmans donates extensive local advertising for our show. They are the best known premier nursery in the metro area. Because of their involvment we can guarentee a good "gate" rain or shine as the show is in their largest greenhouse. Fish look great also because of the natural sunlight yet we can stay dry inside in the event we have a rainy weekend.

Be sure to come visit us this year. Bring fish ..... or not!! Either way, it will be a fun weekend.

Peter (our candidate judge) will be giving a presentation after judging on the "other carp" so if you're a goldie lover, you'll want to make this show. Also Southwest Koi and Goldfish will be bringing in some of their finest for sale.

Hope to see many of you join us this year.

Mike, last year was our first show for our club. We decided that we would require our wet vendors submit KHV serology testing for the fish they planned on bringing to the show. After much discussion and more research regarding the process in obtaining the samples, testing and the reliability of such testing, we opted this year to waive that requirement until such time as the test is more reliable. There are many issues that surround KHV serology testing. One being the collection of the samples. I was amazed at how easy it is to contaminate a sample that would then bring in a false positive result. Our club was the only club in the country that required such testing of their wet vendors. We feel that until other clubs consider adding this requirement, it did not benefit our show to keep this requirement at this time.

BTW, I love the new look of the web site!!

Sue: Makes sense. Not practical at this time. Perhaps in the future there will be better techniques that can be effectively implemented in connection with shows.

one of the concerns I have with shows this year is bio-security.

In quiet observation I notice nets are often dipped in a disinfectant solution and then the handles are never treated. In discussing the various use of disinfectants with another concerned show official, one type of disinfectant previously used as a dip says quite plainly that the article to be disinfected is to be soaked for atleast 20 minutes.

Looking for some good input from present and past show chairs that could help eliminate any weak chink in our bio-armor. Your input appreciated

Good point about the handles Dick!!! Will have to look more closely at that issue!! We use a very high concentration of bleach. From everything I've read, this should handle just about everything we are concerned about. Most shows require that each person entering fish has their own net and bowl. That should also help reduce risks. The benching bowl would need some special attention though.

We also use high splash guards between each tank and wet vendors are spaced far far apart.

the public’s hands for the entire year!

Deadline for Advertiser Submission is July 11th, 2008

Also you can sponsor a trophy. Anyone who sponsors one of the main awards will receive a free 1/2 page ad in our resource guide.

Any donations for raffles are also welcome.

All of this information is available on our web site under Koi Show > Vendor. Who to contact and the forms needed are all within the vendor packet.

This is our second annual show for our club that is still relatively new, but we have the wonderful support of our venue host, Bachmans, which donates our show space and contributes much local advertising. Our gate is excellant for such a young show.

With the support of Bachmans Nursery, we are able to offer the best booth fees of any show so I hope you will consider supporting our efforts in Minnesota either by joining us, sponsoring a trophy or submitting an ad in our Resource guide.

Hope to see or hear from you soon!!!

Sue
