Potential of this kohaku from Shintaro??

I purchased this kohaku from Matt at sugarloaf koi 1yr ago. I think it was about 6inches at the time. I Really believed it had good potential. It was the one time I really disagreed with people on this board, who didn't like it very much at all. I am still standing firm on my opinion of this kohaku. It seems to be a female...and has excellent conformation. It is growing at the rate of .5inch per month. So..12+inches right now. Nice and steady growth. The beni is deep and the shiroji is nice and bright (my water is pretty green right now...so, hard to tell). It may take another few years...but I still think it was a good long term purchase. What are your opinions of it's long term potential?

No doubt that it has a good confirmation, beni and shiroji but the pattern looks too boring for me.

Conformation looks good/your getting good growth...
I like the where the head pattern starts also..

Don't like the way the red goes all the way to the tail on a 2 step kohaku.

Pattern wise it is kinda boring, but does have good characteristics otherwise. How has it grown???

Not a bad shape (though I'd like to see more bulk), but the beni looks to be doing some receding in front of the dorsal in the first step. And if the color is correct, the beni is fading out as well. That could just be your camera falling short--hard to tell from my seat.

I think what is important here is that the owner believes in the Koi. He has seen something in it that makes him happy when he sees it upon arriving at the pond's edge. I honestly don't feel you can devalue the importance
of that as an element for the koi to develop properly.

I agree that the pattern is very simplistic but I really feel that as a koi ages and the body shape, carriage, and quality define, pattern begins to take an increasingly LESS significant role in importance.

When this koi is say, five or six, it will be fun to see what changes will be appreciated as the body, sheen and fukerin develop

The beni is nice and stable. The picture was in direct sunlight in my pea soup water. I have a new 200watt UV coming soon...to add to the 4-36watt units I have now. I am in direct sunlight..so, it's rough. Phosphates are high in my local water as well. I also added a sun shade recently.
Dick is right...I have to say this is the one time I really have faith in a koi. I found the back half of the front pattern very interesting. The first time i saw it, I thought it looked like a tornado..or Twister. I found it to be an eye catching feature of it's pattern. It completely took me by surprise when people said the pattern was boring. But..I guess that is art for you. It either touches you, or it doesn't. If it becomes a jumbo female...I will have great satisfaction for keeping it in a few years.
