The Passing of Sakai of Hiroshima

I just recevied a phone call from my friend Mike Hernandez. He told me, that he had received a call from Japan, 10 minutes ago and that Hiroji Sakai of Hiroshima, passed away this morning.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Sakai family.

Sad news indeed. Hiroji is a most gracious man, and I know he will be missed by many both within the koi community and by those who had pleasure to have met him. My thoughts go out to his family and his friends.

I also received word this morning about Hiroji Sakai's death. Sad news indeed for the koi world and my heart goes out to Kentaro and family as they try and get through this heavy loss.

With heartfelt sorrow my thoughts and prayers go out to the Sakai family. Hiroji-san will be sorely missed in the world of Nishikigoi....

Indeed, it was somewhat a shock when I received a call this afternoon advising me.

A great loss to the Nishikigoi industry and hobby.

If someone could post Hiroji Sakai of Hiroshima bio on this forum that would be helpful to those of us who know of him but never had the pleasure.
God's speed,
Bob

Bob,

Here's a picture of Mr. Hiroji Sakai. A great host, entertainer and world-class koi breeder. Founder of the Donguri and Rose lines that have by and large come to represent the standard for modern kohaku. I've attached a lineage chart for the beginnings of Sakai kohaku that I created for an article a while back.
