My gin rin chagoi looking for a mate, need help.

I'm looking to buy a male to mate with my gin rin chagoi which is currently 22 inches. I usually like kois that have shine, sparkle, outline dark scale, and some spot of red in color. I currently have a 15 inch goshiki male and a 19 inch mute, dont know the name (he has got strip of yellow distinct scale on both side. Are they big enough to provide enough sperm for the gin rin chagoi, or do the find another similar in size male to the female. Anyhow, what male koi would breed well and desirable with these description traits. Thank you all for your input.

I have breed gin rin for 2 years. Last year, a Gin Rin Soragoi Female to Male Kohaku (not gin). I got a nice variety of Gin and Non-gin, Ochiba, Soragoi, Chagoi, Matsuwabke.

This year I bred Gin Rin Soragoi Female to Gin Rin Male Chagoi and got about a dozen non-gin Chagoi and thats it. I had a great fertalization rate, but just not great offspring.

I was told I should use a Magoi x Gin cross instead.

Greg, what sizes were your breeding fish, do the male and female have to be relatively same size. I'm thinking about breeding my gin rin chagoi with a male goshiki, relatively same size, u think that will produce a good mix. Any other suggestions to find a good compatible male for better qualities baby kois would be appreciated.

It's generally safer to use smaller males on the females so there is not as much chance of injury to the female. The males you have are plenty big enough to breed her.

We had a spawning last year with our female gin rin chagoi, male showa, and male kohaku. We got a mix of fry -- the vast majority of which were mutts. If you're hoping to get a majority of gin rin chagoi amongst the fry, I'd recommend picking up a few new males, either GR or standard chagois and/or saragois. I'm hoping to add a few males to my herd sometime before next spring for this very purpose (any dealers, feel free to contact me via PM or email.).

By the way, I highly recommend checking out the "breeding Koi" blog on Greg's site. It's definitely a good source of information...

I didn't want to deal with trying to hatch the fry of mine this last spring.
I thru-away a 5gal bucket of eggs.

To much work raising and no room for them...
