My koi fish mating

I saw my koi fish mate for a short time. then they stop. and do it again. does this mean that spawning season is coming soon?

mating and spawning are the same thing. If they are mating, they are spawning now.

Really? i never knew that! but my koi fish weren't laying any eggs! only the males were just chasing the female for a short time. i'm basically just asking you that the next time they start to chase again, will they actually start to lay eggs and everything? or if u don't get what that means, i'm just asking 'So does that show a sign that they will lay their eggs soon?'.

well, if the male was just chasing the female, they were not mating. Mating and spawning are the same thing....laying and fertilizing the eggs. chasing just means that they are thinking about spawning. You got some good soft spawning material in there for her? Otherwise the male could bash her into the rocks around the top of your pond and injure or kill her.

you may not get a spawn this year. If there is nothing soft in there for her to spawn on, she may not bother. Spawning ropes are nice. It's really almost too late though.

so does that mean she'll have to wait for like 10 months till she let her eggs out?
omg!
would she die if she keeps her eggs that long?!

normally if a koi does not spawn, she just reabsorbs the eggs and there is no problem. that's one reason koi should be fasted during the winter...it forces them to reabsorb their eggs. She will make new eggs next year. Occasionally, a female will not reabsorb her eggs and get egg bound, which can lead to death. If that happens, nothing can be done. It doesn't happen often, but that is one of the risks of keeping female koi.

sorry but what the reabsorbs means? And also, how can you be sure that my pregnant koi won't just lay her eggs during winter or before? because in my country, there's barely winter. i live near the equator line. so its usually always hot. there are trees, to block most of the sunlight. so i don't expect the temperature to vary a lot. Is it possible that she will still lay her eggs now though?

sorry for all the questions!

reabsorb means she will just make them disappear back into her own body. As far as your location, I have no idea when koi spawn there so maybe she will.....maybe she won't.
