Ok time to update this thread

I received the 5 shiro from Shawn almost 2 weeks ago, 3 of which are mine & 2 I'm qting for Thomas T until it gets warmer.

These are set up in an 8' Intex pool w/ filtration media removed from my Nexus. Great thing about the Intex is that it was inexpensive at only $40 new when I got it last summer. Sorry ass thing is that they did not include an air pump for it.

Since I'm a procrastinator I didn't set it up until the night right b/f they were to arrive and guess what? I had the hardest time getting air into the air ring. I tried to use a bicycle hand pump & that didn't work since it did not fit into the air ring's air inlet. Neither did the small 12V air compressor that used to pump air into the cars' tires. Ended up doing it the old fashion way.......yep you guessed it! I did take a while since I'm not know to have alot of hot air in me. But in the end I found that I didn't need alot of air to fill the ring.

Here's the QT sitting in the garage. I had to boot a car out just to have it there.

Did you happen to bowl, measure and take pics of your new kids when they arrived? Sure would like to see and hear about them all. You made some very nice selections.

Hey Bill, I know i've been offline for a while, other things in life came up & I didn't have the time to be here. I've yet to take new pics and measure them since i didn't want to stress them thought after they arrived.

The net is a seine net I use for the pond since there's no way I'm able to catch koi from a 9' deep pond. I got it from Memphis Nets, it had to be special order since the size is not what they stock. It was not expensive, less than $100 IIRC.

Nothing new to add except that since the 3 stooges that I got have been in the big pond it seems the sumi is getting lighter but no loss of sumi. They're voracious eaters.

I fear June, since I'll have a hell of a time catching them in a 9' deep pond w/o a Matsuda net. These buggers sure can swim fast....zoom, zoom...like the Mazda.

Update:

Pond water temp is 78'f now and has been in the 70's for the last 4 weeks, know what this means? Growing time!

I've seen them change in size in the pond w/o measuring them, a couple of the SU have even beaten the Dainichi tosai in size that I got a couple of months ago.

I'm feeding them 6x/day and changing about 10,000 g of water each week, which is a little over 75%.
