I don't know if I ever mentioned (though it was pretty evident in the earliest pics) the split fins of this group. There wasn't a fish without some split fin somewhere, as well as a few popped scales. I was pretty worried about Mikado for a while as she had a very deep split pec and dorsal fin, but they're about 99% healed now with no scars or disfigurement. Scales, however, are taking their time. I'll dig up some good shots of fins and post them as I find 'em....

I'm glad they're healing, Marie.

Mine has healed 100% and you can't tell it was ever there. I never doubted that those splits would heal. Just takes some clean, warm water and time.

Do you have them in an aquarium?

I knew they would heal, but that pec on Mikado had me worried because the split went into the meat and it was angry red on arrival. The dorsal was almost as deep. Can't tell the others had any splits at all now.

Yep, they're in a 75 gallon aquarium and basking in 77 degree water, growing like weeds, getting acquainted with their human family and taming really nicely. They eat like there's no manana. *L* Eventually they'll go outside when their pond is in that temp range--probably May unless the weather makes it sooner.

Sounds like yours are doing great, Sandy. Any update pics? I'm such a sucker for pics....

No, I cover them and uncover as necessary but I can't fool with them right now.

I haven't been around because I carpal tunnel surgery on both hands 4 weeks ago. I'm not supposed to be typing of lifting anything heavier than a quart of milk. I also can't play with the fish.

I go back for my check up next week. I'm hoping I start doing everything again. I have a pool/pond & filters to build and set up, fish to move, a quilt to finish...

Oh well, it's been nice talking to you. DH is "nicely" reminding me that I'm not supposed to be typing.

NO TYPING!

You get better quick so you can make up for lost time when you won't be hurting yourself. Bad girl!

I can wait for pics. Just take a bunch of 'em when you're able.

And the Little Blue finally makes it into art....

"The Bubble Hunter"

Interesting that the software picked up the deep, almost imperceptible underlying sumi for this one (though the tail section is mostly shadow, not pigment). It's interesting to try and watch for pattern/color changes before they actually occur.
