My shiro always looks a little pink in "whole pond" photo's as well. I always come in, download, freak out and go back outside with a couple shrimp so I can get a closer look... A little paranoid I guess...

Great looking SU you've got. I've been enjoying your thread!

Thank you thank you, Grant.

I freak every time I see pink shiroji in the pics too, and run back out to the pond to check everyone out. Today's 'pinkiness' is caused by copious amounts of smoke from the wildfires just south of here being reflected from the scales. It should be 120F today, but the sun is so blotted out everything is orange, including the sun, and it's still in the 80's!

I'm going to be watching "Dave." Lovely Showa and I just can't get past that face. Don't scrimp on the pics, okay?

*return to "Where in the world is Mikado and Gentle"...*

Didn't take them long to swim with the big girls...

...and they're growing like nobody's business! Gentle feels so regal cruising with the Queens of the Pond--Nepenthe and the Tigerlily--who are now 24" and 22" respectively at Sansai. Eyeball measurement somewhere in the 11"-12" range for Mikado and Gentle, close to a 2" stretch since last measurement. Sumi is rising nicely in the pond, just like I was sure it would. If a fish has genetics for sumi, even generations back, it'll come out in this pond, guaranteed. *L*

More pics....now that the water is finally clear of all that fragile algae dogging us all Summer long....

Mikado seriously runs with the big girls and is almost hand-feeding again. Gentle would rather beat them all to the food and is one of the first with her head out of the water. *L* Gotta get a good pic of her other side. Sumi is really starting to kick in...

I've been working on art tonight and was going through old photos and new to play with. Running across a couple of Gentle revealed some pleasant changes that I haven't noticed since I see her all the time. Here's one that was done when I got her, and another from just the other day. She's sure coming along well. Too bad we're not having a Tancho growout competition.

Skinny little waif back in January with a lot of blue under the skin and not a whole lot of sumi developed...

Today her shiroji is getting thicker, just like her body, and her sumi is coming up in some nice places. And she's not a frail waif anymore! I had been a little concerned about that puckery little mouth of her's and her laid back nature being indicative of a fish that might not grow so big, I think I'm wrong....

I know, I know, you'd probably rather see the original photographs. Bummer for you that you've got to put up with an eccentric. *L*

I'm working on a few of Mikado for comparison. Mikado isn't the easiest to get good pics of in the pond, so it's been real tedium getting anything of any telling value to show her development so far. Must be male--she doesn't have a nice easy sashay like Gentle does, but is more dynamic and fast. My camera focuses so slow I miss the good shots, and you'd swear you're listening to a person with a bad case of Tourette's Syndrome if you were eavesdropping by the pond. In fact, if I didn't have it strapped around my neck, that camera would have gone swimming by now, that's how frustrating it is!
