Updates on the first page. I'm a little embarrassed. Folks are putting up impressive growth numbers. Not much here. We have just this week reached 68'F and switched to high protein. Growing season is FINALLY here.

You have three that are still in the contest and healthy................nothing to be embarrassed about.

Latest news here is my wife and I have kind of suddenly decided to put our house on the market. So I am selling off all of my koi and dismantling our fish house. I think I am going to try and keep the Omosakos and a couple others in a show tank for a while. Who knows with this housing market, but if we do move, maybe I can get a liner pond built in a short time. Not absolutely sure I want to continue with fish. I want to free up some of my free time. Plus electric and water just keeps going up.

Anyhow, I am going to try getting some money back for quite a few fish and that might violate the rules of the grow-out. I won't be making a profit, more like a huge loss. Any opinions about that are welcome, and perhaps jnorth will stop by with a ruling.

Please tell Heather,
Moving is an option/getting out of koi isn't

I sure hope you are able to continue with the growout and find a way (economically that is) to stay in the hobby. You and your charges are another fun part of the whole thing.

As far as peddling your "excess" goes, I can't see any way possible that it would place you in any type of "pro" status and knock you out of the competition. Recouping a small portion of your investment rather than giving them away is hardly the same as going in to the business.

i agree with larry. do what you can to get what you can but stay in the competition! would be a shame to not have the #1 pick in it! good luck!

Thanks guys. Well, after having my fun at breeding and running 16000 gallons for a couple years, I'm now down to one tank, 3100 gallons and only 7 koi. Very relaxing

I will keep this last tank running until we move, if and when...

As for the Omosakos, I got rid of the tancho. It was clearly male and I totally lost interest in it. The other 3 are now at 11" mid-August, so still lagging behind on growth. Sumi mostly submerged. Probably 14" when this wraps up in March.

wow, there were some changes in the sumi on yours between the mid point and current pics.

some interesting developments. 6 inches in 3 months is amazing. good girth on yours also. totally different than my 3. all are getting longer but staying slim, probably because they are males....
