53 my final choice.........

MTN PONDER,

You know the funny thing is #53 was my third choice moments before submitted live on the forum. My first and second pick was still available at the time. My top three choices were laden with heavy sumi. In the very last second, I pushed 53 up to be my first choice because I had a hunch she was bigger than my first two selections. I suppose I should find my notes and see how the other two fish I had slotted before her measured up.

Checker Board Kohaku

I have been restraining myself from posting photos of the other fish I grabbed to grow out with my SU's! However, I feel this photo has relevance to the grow out challenge.

This is my checker boarded Kohaku! When I saw this fish at Mystic when picking up my SU's I figured I should grab it up for good luck. I mean after all most of us are all hoping for a nice text book checker board pattern in our SU's, right.

I think the Kohaku is a male and not just because of the phallic patten on the nose. If my memory serves me, the fish measures up at about 9". I will double check that measurement during my flirting hour today. My SU 53 is 9" and is quite a bit more stout than the Kohaku! Life is good............

No Photos for a while.........

It's too early to photograph my girls in the pond.

First off, I have a black net pulled tight over the pond to keep in jumpers and keep everything else out.

The group is still very shy. I just came in from outside. They wanted to come and see me but only for the promise of food. I won't feed them today until mid day. This A.M. the water temp is at 62F degrees!

If I started shooting photos right now they would be freaked out. They don't have any brave souls in the pond that are already acquainted with me and they don't have the overwhelming appetite (yet) that will allow me to do whatever I want! I.E., Remove the net, get within inches of them and FLASH em'. (NO with the camera silly!)

The light SU under the sun does glisten nicely and so does my number 2 showa that I haven't SHOWAED anyone, yet!

The Kohaku is approximately 9". I will confirm that later today when I go to feed the group. My #53 SU is exactly 9" and I will compare the two.

I had not looked at the fish as a three step! I just looked at it as checker board! You have given me a new perspective. Shawn wasn't there when I picked up the fish so I'm not sure who the breeder is. I will visit Mystic Later this week and find out!

My koi are conditioned to the flash and the IR beam of the camera by taking pics before I feed them. Take flash pics before you feed every time, even if they're crappy, and you'll have camera friendly fish forever.

Well I took about 100 photos out at the pond today and maybe 5 came out okay. I have a nice polarizer but it only fits my wide angle lens so the photos aren't as close as I would like them to be.

Look at this photo it looks like I trained the fish to swim in a pattern! The second and third fish is my Checker Board Kohaku and #53 swimming side by side. They are both 9" and #53 is definitely thinker! FEMALE?

Interesting Photos

As I said, I took at least a hundred photos and came up with five or so of any interest. That goes with the territory! Digital Cameras RULE!.

It gives a much different perspective looking at the patterns of these fish in the photos. I have am posting 3 photos that show how promising #53 will be. I think she is going to be an extremely pleasing fish to watch develop! I can picture her now, BIG with amazing interesting pattern.

Look at this photo as 53 breaks the surface to eat! NICE!

Look at 53 taking a turn with that flash of checker board!

Are we having fun yet?
