The Unfortunates of the Omosako Grow out contest.... perhaps this could be cleaned up and stickeyed.... as it coulld become a wealth of how truly good koi keeprs are at keeping koi... the members of this board represent some of the better koi keepers, and if "we" can't keep little koi alive fwith the additional motivation of a contest then the hobby would be made aware of the need for greater care and technology....so let's get it down on e-paper... we cna compare the number that died compared to the number that are "in it" at the end.... By cleaned up maybe a mod could get the history in sequential order of what has died so far and then from then on the owners could add their names and the koi when the time comes.... (and "we" could keep our condolences to the owners grow out thread so as not to fill this thread with "Oh i am so sorry for you" or "what rotten luck" or "I feel your pain." or my favorite.. "YOU SUCK" ![]()

"Sucks to be You" is another all time favorite of mine , but I usually reserve it for when I'm feeling the extreme urge to be tacky...![]() Actually the idea for the thread isn't a bad one. It would be an easy way to keep the growout threads "clean" and also a handy dandy teaching tool for anyone interested in mortality rates and potential mistakes to avoid in the future.

guess I'll be the first to post my loss here because I think organizing this is a very good Idea, I thought with a picture it will be easier for those that had koi they were trying to follow keep track so perhaps we can add that to the info given my QTank was not securely netted on one corner and something stole my # 61... pick 151e

yes Meg, that is the dirty little secret of the hobby... tons of non-petsmart koi die every year.... Most hobbyists kill alot of their fish...even the "good" hobbyists. And the hobby as a whole doesn't flinch. these "grow-out" contests should be called "Survival" contests....to compound the loses, consider the people that "entered' the contest and never intended to be apart of it. Their loses have been much higher, yes?
