People what do you think about the Shiro grow out so far?

Any thoughts about your koi or anyones elese, or maybe group thoughts regarding the shiro's? Whats up with the top 10? How are they? How do people feel about the growth/changes of the Shiro growout so far?

The top 10 from the shiro picks.... Can we make a new top 10 for fun, hopefully we can get everyone to post their pics?

The top 10 way back when......

1 jeff speck 150
2 bito t200
3 cricket 110
4 minhla 119
5 ronin-koi 9
6 woodyaht 60
7 carolinagirl 41
8 koicjl 54
9 koiscales 125
10 louie 84

The new top 10?????????

Oh yeah. Now you're gonna make us work and pay attention
Good idea actually. We can all gain a little insight (and maybe eat a little humble pie) at each stage of the growout this way.
Of course this means I'll have to get 51 bowled up a few days sooner than I had planned... OR MAYBE I'LL JUST MAKE YOU WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEKEND

one of my shiros still has most of its sumi submerged and it may still be that way when the contest ends so i probably won't know for a couple of years on that one.....one of my others is looking excellent at least to me....and i have one that has beni coming and going and right now it looks messy........i ended up with two of the little tanchos....they are still hanging on to their beni but it doesn't seem to be high quality so that is also a wait and see.......as far as growth goes mine have only grown a couple of inches....

yep, yep, and

Thanks Meg....Johnny 5 looks nice, a little on the samll side but I'm working on that.....

So far I have noticed many of these koi have lost their sumi.....I have my thoughts on that but I'm going to wait a day or two to see if anyone has any input on that.........?

Overall I think many of them will still offer many surprises in the next several months. In Michigan I have a small window to fatten my koi up so this is a fun time to feed koi.....By the way does anyone have any advice for a home-made Shiro power diet? OR are you keeping it a secret....lol.

big suprises! some heavier with sumi than mine have lost MUCH more than mine did. and although mine grayed out it did not go white like some of those others have. I have been told that my water is good for sumi, hard ???
so what is playing the bigger role?
water conditions or genetics?
got any guesses as why?

Comparing water and feeding notes along the way may provide some of the answers, but I've got a feeling we'll still be asking some of the same questions 2 years from now. These little buggers are tricksy

I had my fish in the QT until June 6. The QT is inside a shed which does have some light (4 windows, a service door, and a garage door) but not much direct sun. When I took them out the sumi was pretty bright and not much had faded. Now they have been outside in the big pond for 3 weeks I believe the sumi is stating to fading more. I will know more in a few more weeks. So I'm wondering if it's something environmental.
