Sorry Scott, but my vote is for Jan at this point..

I bet about now you are wondering why you never have bought Ogata showa before???

I have to say his showa's are one of my top 5 favorites.

Our oldest Ogata is 9 years now, and her sumi and beni is still not finished, but the quality of the skin is just amazing on this fish she is around 31", and will be coming out of retirement in Feb 2009, since the San Diego club, has decided to allow previous GC to come back, after a 3 year time span..
Hey, Nancy...........Scott seems to think you should be pulling for his Ogata showa (not mine) - wonder why that is? Any way, he says wait til next year and then see what you think. LOL Meantime, you and Frank make sure you have Scott view your showa closely in SanDiego, OK?

Some day - would like to make a trip to Ogata and view the big girl showas! We can see why you have made them one of your faves.

    another 3 months.........

.........has passed. Showa growouts have been in outdoor pond here in S. Co. heated but not above 58 during this 3 mos.

Visually, today they are truly looking fine, with crisp beni and some of the sumi up more also. I have been feeding pearl barley sporadically now as we are bringing the temp back up slowly for rest of winter. We'll get some pics after the AKCA Seminar next month.

It is already May. Time flies in the koi hobby.

I never did take those March pictures....just leaving these fish alone in the pond where they went last Aug. and now that it's Spring to pig out !! It is so hard to tell if they have grown when you do not bowl and measure, but my guess is they have put on at least 2 inches, even thru winter and low pond temps.

Scott's showa's menware (just as you said Larry) is gonna make us wait and wait and wait, but it is going to be awesome when it does finish. At least there is more on the face and nose than in Oct. The other sumi is much improved also - a good sign for entire sumi on this fish.

I just absolutely love the shiroji on these Ogata fish. Incredible.

Hi, Don. Thanks for the reminder. I promise to do this before deadline.

And, another dear koi kichi just called to remind us. Actually had it on today's list of things to do. We have not bowled these fish at all since last fall, so this should be very educational for us at this point also. I cannot wait to see them up and in that blue bowl.
First today, it was putting things away after our garage sale from yesterday...hubby, Scott is a master salesman with the women folk who stop to look at stuff. I just collect the money. Fun day.
Then we started with tree trimming....we're talking big trees folks. We just came in for a lunch break when the phone rang. Gonna finish it up and then do pond chores.
I have the camera charging now. Pictures late tonight maybe.

Not so good for sumi; it does like cooool water.
