    Fish # 2

Picked fish up at the airport on Tuesday, July 1. We were very pleased when we opened the bag and let the fish out. The skin quality really jumped right out at you. All the colors were bright and deep. We do not have a clue what the sex are but #14 is probably a male. It's the smallest and the beni is the deepest and brightest red.

First pic is fish #2 our first pic. We wanted a kindal showa (more white) but there were not many left. Seven of our top 10 picks were gone. This koi may have the brightest white but the pattern is a little messy. The sumi at the tail needs to stay up and thicken.

Showa #14 was our second pick. This fish is very different than #2. Much more beni with a big pattern. The skin quality is excellent and the beni is very thick. It came in very distressed or tried and was losing it's balance. The next morning it looked fine and although it's the smallest, it's the biggest eater. This koi has Baby Champ written all over it, but the timing is bad. It's already 10 3/4" and will surely be over 12" by September (Atlanta). I guess I could put him in the water garden and feed sparingly.

Showa #20 was our last pick. This was the first fish out of the bag and boy were we surprised. We could not believe the quality of these fish was kept a secret. I was worried about the patterned but there is more white on the sides of the tail tube that will appear when the fish gets larger. The white is stunning. There is some weak beni in the tail tube that we are hoping will fill in.

Oh what a treat! That Kindai just sparkles! #20 looks as nice as I thought she would be and I'm so glad you can take good pictures It's going to be great watching these three grow out. Very nice choices all.

Sorry, #20 took a flight early Saturday Morning. Jumped through the net even and landed on top of it. Too late when I found him/her.

I having a bad year for keeping koi alive. Since last December I have lost 8 koi & have 1 bent spine. I've had birds, flukes, bacteria infections, & jumping. Things have to get better.

Well, things are getting better. Showa #14 has just won Young Champion at the North Carolina Koi and Water Garden Society Show in Ralegh NC. She's 13" and had to bit out a nice size 4 Showa. I'm working on a better pic.
