Spike, can you list the certified dealers for us?

I'm in the boonies in a hotel room and my memory is not all that great.

DBHP - is a waste of money. I havent seen it benefit the hobbyist, but by telling us to buy from a dealer cause his or her fish maybe clean?! MAYBE...

I wonder if the Shinkokai has some sort of DBHP?

I was wondering if anyone would buy fish from a dealer at a koi show who had dead fish in there tank?

As Cheryl stated, the timelines simply do not work. Serology, PCR, ELISA, whatever you might wish to do all have their specific timing requirements to have any value whatsoever so taking a very expensive approach such as this to provide what is in essence a "false" sense of security is a complete waste of time and money.

Dealers and breeders alike do themselves a favor by advertising their biosecurity protocols and educating their customers as well as it only builds their reputations within the buying public, but as we all know nothing is fool proof and false positives AND negatives are an uncomfortable reality.

What would seem more reasonable to me would be for contact information and procedures to be made available FROM dealers or the show itself to each participant and/or casual customer (walk-in) listing contact info for testing facilities they could avail themselves of. Education and resources have real value to each and every one of us.

Perhaps realizing the impracticality of the idea, the suggestion was followed by "or" at least the suspected ones. I did not see any follow-up explaining what was meant, and decided not to engage in self-inflicting brain damage by discussing the point. I figure the energy required to have an an intelligent discussion with someone espousing that notion was more than I possess on a Monday.
Our club's first show we tried to mandate that vendors submit serology KHV testing before they brought fish to the show. It didn't go over well at all. As we all know, false positives can occur leaving the vendor with no other choice then to decline to attend and retest. Time does not always allow for retesting. Possible contamination of samples causing false positives is much more common then I ever expected.
